In the Light of Day

September 14, 2004

Well after a rant against the internet followed by a brief absence of writing here, some of you may be wondering if the internet struck back with a vengeance against this little one who dared shake his fist at the giant. Not so. Things have piled up around here, and this is always one of the first things to get pushed to the back burner.

But a sleepless night over the last night or two provided me a chance to finally implement version 3 of northoftheborder, code named "In the Light of Day".

Obviously, I wanted to lighten things up a bit with this release, I was growing tired of the black and darker shades of gray. This design breathes a little more and I think significantly improves readability. The custom headers are back in larger iterations for each of the major sections of the site. Also utilized is Current Hoverless Links sans Titles, by yours truly.

The front page was a departure from the two column blog template used by many. I was influenced by Doud Bowman's recent work on StopDesign and an article layout I recently saw in Sports Illustrated. The layout seeks to emphasize the most recent article while still providing space for recent posts and other links.

You will also notice little iTunes links in the sidebars. I have been accepted as an iTunes affiliate and as you know I am a big fan of the service. So next time you want to buy a song, click through one of my links here and help a brotha out...

Other things of interest:

Expect more touchups over the next week or so, and some older articles may look a bit funny. Let me know what you think!

The new version looks great Daily. Glad to see you are still among the living. Hope all is well. How is married life? Things are moving along here....Went to The Ted to watch the Braves lose yet another post season series, and I am currently watching the Red Sox give away another chance to end the Curse of the Bambino. Fortunately, my high school team is in the midst of off-season workouts and looking good. I am looking forward to the first week of February and a new season. Let me know how things are going, hopefully you will be able to update in less than a few months next time.
