Honeymoon Hodgepodge
June 30, 2004
We're baaaaack. After a wonderful 9-day tour of south Florida, we are back to a little bit of normalcy here. But of course I wouldn't go without sharing some randomized thoughts of our little journey...
On South Florida
At any given time, half of south floridians are on I-95. At the same given time, the other half are at the beach. The other half are at Sawgrass Mills Mall in Ft. Lauderdale. Wait that's three halves...well there's lots of people down there.
South Florida is a bastion of yankee sympathizers. I was very excited upon arriving as I had not partaken of sweet tea in quite a while. 95% of the time, my request for said drink was met with, "I'm sorry darlin', but I do have raspberry tea...". Yankees.
This story about Ft. Lauderdale having the best beaches in the country appeared while we were there. I am no beach aficionado, but I concur. What would really break the mold is to invent something that cools sand in direct sunlight, I felt like I was walking on the hood of a NASCAR.
I am really looking to vote for some political official who is ready to put forth a bill to ban speedo's.
What is it with Florida and Walgreen's? I swear there is one ever mile or so on any road you take.
On Key West
If you want to drive to Key West from Miami, get plenty of rest. One of the most grueling and exhausting four hour drives I have ever made. Right up there with the 'ol Springfield to Paducah run across southeast Missouri back in the two lane days.
A beautiful place, but is often overshadowed by the strange, to ridiculously strange, to the ok...you are starting to creep me out strange locals.
I have said many times that I would never ride a motorcycle. Well, I kinda did. We rented a moped for two hours and I have never been so scared going 20 mph in my life. Note to back-seat moped passengers: You do affect the balance of a two-wheeled vehicle.
People vacation to get away from the everyday grind. Did you hear that Democratic National Convention? How 'bout telling your snot-nosed brats on the corner to leave me alone for 5 minutes, they're wasting their time anyway. Oh yes, as a matter of fact I did drive all this way and spend a small fortune to stay here just so I can listen to your political drivel.
On being back in the US of A
I miss Arby's. Bad. As far as I know, there are no Arby's in Canada.
I love seeing the flag everywhere. I think it is Florida law that you must display 362 flags in order to open a car dealership.
That's all for now. Check back soon, we might even put up a wedding pic or two...

So glad to hear you had a good time, what about Nora? Was she the backseat moped passenger or you? I was happy to get my Arby's fix the day I left Jersey for England - also it's very true about missing seeing your flag - something "state-siders" take for granted...I have 2 rather patriotic get-ups for Lauren, but because of "force protection" its best if we wear those on base only. By the way, Force protection is the suggestions made by the military as to not make yourself a target for terrorism while overseas, i.e. wearing a big american flag on your chest while out amongst the locals...So moral of the story be thankful and grateful, and by all means patriotic this 4th of July weekend!!!

Back in the Orlando days, I too was somewhat befuddled (thanks Dave) at the lack of sweet tea and abundance of "raspberry tea". Makes no sense. As far as never being so scared going 20 mph, a certain field, with a certain Isuzu pickup, with a certain driver (initials R.C.), on an evening after rolling a certain Turner household comes to mind. Ah the good ole days...
Welcome Home!!
Dad says:
Thanks for the heads up about Fla. We'll have to keep that in mind, if you know what I mean
Glad you're home safe and sound and had a great time. Would love to hear more about the Izuzu thing???
Love dad

Glad you made it back safely after the moped adventure! It is amazing the things that you miss when you are out of the country for awhile....
Kel, please don't make your beautiful daughter a target over there!! I will be sitting at Turner Field Friday night with my wife and Casey, taking in the Braves and Red Sox, and the fireworks after the game. That's something to be thankful for.....I wish everyone could be there with us.

KC says:
Thanks Mom, which could be literal after the comments made by 6 wedding guests!! Glad we get your seal of approval now that we have all become old and responsible, I'm sure you never pictured us doing the things we have when we were standing on your front porch talking to the officer after the Great Toilet Paper Incident of '97!! Take care, hopefully we will see you soon!

I am concerned about the fact that you seem to have some unresolved issues about Speedos. Live and let live, Man!
Glad to hear that you had a great time. I am assuming Nora did as well since you made NO MENTION WHATSOEVER about your bride! Shame on you.
Love you guys and are so happy for you! We'll keep you posted on the Alabama adventure...gotta go take care of some dental work before we go though...understand there arent' any dentists in AL!

Mom says:
Hey Kevin -- Funny you should mention that --- as I was packing the house up I ran across a picture of said young men with an officer on my front porch. What a funny morning -- Mom

This is Aunt Max again and after reading all these comments it has come to my attention that
I seem to be in the dark about a certain front porch incident and police. What's up with that?

Brad, checked to see if you got back from the wonderful honeymoon and loved the commentary on Florida. It will come in handy when I retire to my condo there. I look forward to seeing some pictures of the wedding or life in general. Now that this computer challenged old lady can get on your website, I look forward to keeping up with what's happening in Canada. Now it is time to settle into real life and experience the joys of married life. Please Brad, as a favor to Nora, pick up your dirty underwear and put it in the laundry. Love ya, Gayle
